seeking self enlightenment

A WISH COME TRUE

self enlightenment exercise no.14

Imagine that whatever you wish, immediately comes true

What might your first wish be?
Maybe something practical, like having lots of money

Now, what might your second wish be?
Maybe something good happening for someone else

What might your third wish be?
Maybe something for yourself again, like being young and healthy

What might your fourth wish be?
Maybe something exciting like the realization of a fantasy

Now, imagine you have spent a hundred years making thousands of wishes that always come true.  You have become bored, lonely and weighed down with responsibility.

You make one last and final wish.

To live the life you have now, with all its problems and uncertainties.

NOTES
If you enjoyed the fantasy aspects of this exercise, then I recommend you experience this audio meditation called Astral Travel

Be great if you share some of the wishes you might make, by posting them below.

Susie Harris's Gravatar Good Morning to your night,
It is early in the day in California, and my first thoughts this morning were in line with your question. What would I be doing if I had nothing else to do. What if someone brought me my meals,
tended my clothes, and allowed me the solitude to just be.
First, I would be in the country somewhere, there would be a modest garden house where I could be sitting if the weather were too cold or wet to be outside.A fireplace, always tea and water. I would have yellow lined legal pads and sharp pencils or pens that glide easily, some water colors, all my drawing and painting stuff, some books to read, Rumi, Mary Oliver, a novel. Then I would sit in my overgrown garden and write what I see. That seems to be my wish for today, oh and friends who visit in the evening and play music, sing and love.

Richard Latham's Gravatar Hi Susie,
Your post sound like a very achievable wish. Nice one. Good luck with having it, if you haven't already. Richard

Seven's Gravatar My wishes usually look alot like the life i have now, but with minor tweaks and twists on the social situations around me. I think this excersize has made it clear that if i can find acceptence with those, i would have all my wishes, thanks!

Sarah's Gravatar I didn't get satisfaction from this exercise, as I am old and wise enough not to wish for material things. I wished for better health, grandchildren, and peace and happiness for my loved ones. I don't long for a BMW or that big house on the hill. So, with poor health and unemployment, I don't understand how wishing for the life I have right now should be eye-opening or cathartic. I am not being negative, Richard, I would just like your input.

Argentina's Gravatar I am sorry, but I need to express the fact that some people, like myself, wouldn't ever be bored if couple of essential life wishes would finally come true, because I am 100% sure that only one thing can make me happy, and if there is happiness, there is never boredom. Some people do not have satisfaction that every other living creature has.......

Donna's Gravatar I wish for good health and adequate resources so that I won't be preoccupied with survival issues. That will allow me to take the higher path of self-actualization. I mean, I'm not saying that living in any condition or circumstance is not soul work but I think that needs to be said to the woman with the question about her poor health. I am apt to thinking that the more horrid the individual condition, the more OPPORTUNITY for advanced soul evolution. Whether or not we seize that opportunity, depends very much on whether we can manage the carnal wear and tear of our respective situations. In any event, I also work toward that end with all the mental, spiritual and physical resources that I currently have. If I fall short, at a minimum, I will have build and indomitable character, an iron will and a lot of amazing memories.

shirley higgins's Gravatar I wish for peace, love and happiness for every living thing on earth and that we all not only accept ourselves but one another for our likenesses and differences and that the natural resources of the planet begin to rejuvenate for our present and future survival...............lots of love, happiness and creative compassion

Lisa's Gravatar I would wish to be free of the delusion that I am trapped in my circumstances. My mind knows it's a delusion, but I just can't seem to let go and live my life......

Lesley's Gravatar I think my wish would be that I would finally be happy with what I have. I have good health, healthy happy children, a husband who works hard, a reasonable job which doesn't extend me too much, a roof over my head, food on my table etc etc. I wish all of this good fortune could be enough for me and that I had the motivation to work with what I already have instead of wishing that someone would whisk me off to 'a better life'.....

Richard Latham's Gravatar Hi Leslie,
Thanks for your inspiring feedback about the realisation that your wish has come true. Really pleased for you.

For the last wish you mention, the challenge lies only in the mind. In theory, this sort of wish is easy to have, but it is very difficult, as it involves one of the greatest battles, which is with ourselves.
Richard

cathy's Gravatar FIRST, i am smiling at the number of comments for the "wish"!! first wish is that everyone die the way they want to - we're all going to - and we've all thought it to death (no pun intended); first wish, sub a (LOL) is that my sister miraculously recover from polymiocitis (ugly immune disease); second wish is that i get off my back. with those 3 wishes granted - oops, two - life would be far more grand. on the flip side, i can think of how it could be far worse - so i guess i'm stickin with the no-wish life. heheehe (but i'd love to have a couple)

Richard Latham's Gravatar Hi Sarah,
Sorry to miss replying to your interesting post.
I understand that you are not being negative, but just realistic. I have read that as we age and approach the end of our lives, a sense of enlightenment happens naturally. When this occurs, there is less desire for material things, as you said. Is this a fair comment? Thanks for posting.

Amara's Gravatar I love this opportunity to reflect. My current life is full of joy, pain, longing and loss. What I would wish for first of all is for the comfort of knowing my lovely daughter who has multiple disabilities is surrounded by people who have only her best interest at heart. That the future she has after I have passed will be as lovely as her present life. This is my fondest wish.Beyond that I would hope for more opportunities to spend in nature..time with those i care about. Less time worrying as a way to problem solve...openings to new ways of thinking that are increasingly more positive and energizing.
