self enlightenment exercise no. 17

  • Tense all the muscles in both your legs and then release them
  • Clench both your hands into tight fists and tighten all the muscles in your arms.  Then release them.
  • Breathe very deeply into your chest, filling your lungs completely with air. Hold your breath for a moment and then breathe out slowly.
  • Push your tongue firmly against the roof of your mouth.  Hold it there for a few moments and very slowly allow it to rest
  • As your tongue relaxes, close your eyes and notice how you feel.

NOTES
This exercise creates oxygen demand from your muscles, which is then satisfied by the deep breath.   The relaxation of your tongue calms your thoughts and encourages your body to end the exercise feeling relaxed.

To experience this exercise in spoken word, listen to this guided meditation.

Good Morning,
When I awoke this morning, I was having a panic attack. This exercise gave me distance enough from it to be able to gain a bit of perspective. Great timing Now I will do the meditation about decision making. Thank You again,
Susie
