HAPPINESS

self enlightenment exercise no. 3

How do you feel right now?
How do you think your face looks now?
You probably look the way you feel.  Even if your spirits are low you can uplift them through the simple act of smiling. Smiling triggers happy feelings in the brain, so why not give this simple exercise a try?

Now as you read these words and without smiling just yet.... tighten ever so slightly the sides of your eyes.... notice those tingling sensations.... next, let these sensations spread down to your cheeks as if in the very beginnings of smile.  Now lift the sides of your mouth a little into just a half smile.... and now you are smiling.  Do you notice something curious about the way you feel.....  Keep smiling, just enjoy it.

NOTES
Try and maintain this smile when you are with other people and you will notice an improvement in the way you act.  You will also be more attractive and nicer to be around.  Besides, smiling encourages others to be happy too, others might respond by smiling back and then you will know that your spirits are truly uplifted.

Please post a comment or question below about how you got on with this exercise. I will gladly post a reply.

Great exercise - My Mom taught me as a little girl to always keep the corners of my mouth turned up in a small smile and this habit has remained with me. However, being on a computer for hours one forgets and it is good to be reminded! Thank you.

smiling is indeed contageous . I have experienced that your smile earns back a bigger smile even from those who seldom smile .

Thanks Richard. Smile I thought came from the corner of the lips, but now I see we have to start from the corner of the eyes. It changes the mood.
