THE BEAUTY IN REALITY

self enlightenment exercise no. 10

  • Look near you for a small object you can hold in your hands.
  • Do not be over selective, just pick anything that easily comes to hand.
  • Do not try and see any significance in your choice, just accept it for what it is - an object!
  • Once you have your object in your hands, spend a minute observing it closely from all sides and memorize every detail.
  • Now close you eyes and recall how it looks.
  • Look at the object again.
  • Does it seem more beautiful than before?

NOTES
Please post a comment or question about how you got on with this exercise and I will gladly post a reply.

Hope you enjoyed this  exercise. It has been a lot of fun writing it.  I now have an intimate knowledge of dozens of objects on my desk :-)

I picked a CD up for this exercise as it was the nearest object to me. When I looked at it very closely I really noticed how the light changed as I moved it around. All the colours of the rainbow were displayed in all their glory. It was beautiful! I feel that I am so tied up in all the unimportant trivia of everyday life like "do people respect me at work?" etc etc when these things are really not all that important. I am actually lucky to have the luxury of picking and choosing when and where I work! My problem is that when it is not perfect I look for something better! This exercise has grounded me and has made me see that there is beauty is the simplest and most unlikely things. I just have to see past my own petty problems to appreciate them....... Thank you!

using this technique the object appeared more graceful in detail and design too. I never realized how graceful this is.

Thanks Richard for another enlightened moment!
I took a pen in my hand (didn't seem like any thing) but it was handy and feeling a bit stressed as I was paying bills, and still haven't conquered financial abundance. So when I took a closer look at it,it read "NaturalAwakenings"(a magazine Co. from when I lived in Florida 4 months back)Of course, I haven't used this pen for anything recently, so as always it was a sign for me to relax and be grateful and happy for the wonderful things I have accomplshed,(www.ourvisionspaforyou.com) and for what is perfect in my life as of now! What would we do without these enlightened moments? Thank you so much, Tina

My chosen object was my MP3 player. I felt gratitude, one for the opotunity it gives me for my time out, two for the joy it brings when i listen to the music it plays, three for the flexibility it has given me.
The bigger picture, i can apply these things in my life more by being aware of all the objects that are in my way, i can have gatitude for learning this lesson, joy knowing i have a solution to move through, flexibility if it doesn't work out the first time round. hmm all the things i miss by not being aware of what is in front of me.
